Hiatus

I'm back!! School totally took over my life the past few months. I also lost the camera that I'd been using to take pictures of my swatches (it was my sisters and she took it back). So I neglected this blog but I'm back. I've updated my collection spreadsheet with new polishes but I haven't taken pics yet. I will try to get those up asap with my old little Canon ;) I need a new camera but that'll have to wait. Anywho...I have some random pics for now.

Hello Kitty toenails

Quick nail art post today :) Yesterday I was browsing Pinterest and came upon a cute Hello Kitty design on toenails. I did a different Hello Kitty design on my sister a few weeks ago and it was in serious need of an update so I showed her the pin and she was all for it. It's super cute and was pretty easy to do. Here's the link to the pin I saw: Hello Kitty toenails and here are the pictures of the design I did on my sister.

Pink - 'Flirt Alert' by Pure Ice
White - 'White On' by Sally Hansen
Black - 'Razzle Dazzler' by Nicole by OPI
Yellow - 'One Voice' Nicole by OPI
Silver - 'Silver' by LA Colors

I think it came out pretty cute ;)

notd: Popular

I literally just did this mani like 15 minutes ago and I just couldn't wait to blog about it and share pictures. I've been after this nail polish for a while now and finally found it yesterday. It's the oh so popular 'Popular' by Revlon. Now I have to say, I'm not a huge fan of Revlon nail polish. I have a few others that have given me nothing but problems (especially 'Gray Suede', nightmare to apply) but I decided to give them another shot. I bought this one along with 'Whimsical' which I'll post about later. 'Popular' is a milky baby pink base with different size silver hex-glitter. Each stroke has tons of glitter which surprised me. A lot of times you have to scrape some of the glitter form the sides of the bottle to get enough on the brush. Not the case here. One coat may be a little too sheer for some and it is for me, so I applied two coats. My thumb is a tiny bit streaky so I probably should have gone for three... The formula is good, not too thick not too thin. I'm really loving this mani :) So on to the pics.

Brand: Revlon
Color: Popular
Price: $3.98 at Wal-Mart
Quality: Good, only con is that the formula is milky so it can be streaky
Brush: Medium, fairly easy to work with
Coats: 2 (probably should have done 3 though)
Bottom Line: Love the color and the amount of glitter that each stroke puts down.

Dandelion Nails

This is a look I did on my friend Cassandra a couple of weeks ago. I've seen this dandelion nail art all over Pinterest and just love it. I had never tried it out on myself and the only other time I've done it is on a swatch wheel. Cassandra saw it and liked it and asked if I could do it on her nails. I was nervous because I'm not great with drawing directly on the nail but I think it came out nice :) The base color I used is Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure 'Commander in Chic' and then I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear 'White On' and Nicole by OPI 'Razzle Dazzler'. Here's the outcome...

notd: Daddy's Girl

So it's been a little too long since my last post. My apologies :] Anywho, today's featured NOTD is one of my absolute favorite polishes ever...and it's an inexpensive one. Woohoo, budget polish for the win ;) It's 'Daddy's Girl' by Sinful Colors. This is a beautiful shimmery purple jelly. It's hard to photograph though so it may look a little blue in the pictures. So I've been hearing all about "jelly sandwiches" recently and decided to try it for myself. I put down 2 coats of 'Daddy's Girl' and then added a layer of Kleancolor 'Silver Lining' and then topped that off with another coat of 'Daddy's Girl' (and then topcoat of course). I love the effect. 'Daddy's Girl' already has some glitter to it but 'Silver Lining' has chunkier glitter. The look is subtle but so pretty. On to the picshas!

All pics were taken with artificial light (ottlite)

Brand: Sinful Colors
Color: Daddy's Girl
Price: $1.99 at Walgreens
Quality: Jelly formula that's a little hard to work with
Brush: On the smaller side
Coats: total of 3 (plus the Silver Lining sandwiched in between)
Bottom Line: This is one of my favorite polishes ever. I love the jelly formulation and the glitter even though I need to do multiple coats. The brush is a bit on the small side but it's not too bad.

notd: Melon of Troy

I was feeling summery today so I put on Melon of Troy by OPI from the Greek Isles collection. It's a pretty coral color that's a bit frosty. In the bottle it looks like it has a silver shimmer to it but it's more frost than anything else. I love this color for the spring/summer. It's one of those perfect "I'm going swimming" colors and works great for fingernails and toenails. I have on two coats. One is a bit too sheer. As much as I love this color, I'm not a big fan of frost polishes. They tend to leave brush strokes if you're not careful. Anywho, here are the pics :)

Brand: OPI
Color: Melon of Troy
Price: $8.50 at Target
Quality: Good
Brush: Medium; works well
Coats: 2
Bottom Line: Love the formula of OPI polishes as well as the brush size, this polish is a great color but the frost can be tricky to work with

notd: Midnight Queen

2 weeks ago I bought some Kleancolor nail polish and up until this week I hadn't even played around with them! *gasp* That has to be a record for me :) So I finally busted them out and tried out Midnight Queen which is a dark blue base with purple and blue micro glitter. One coat is pretty sheer. Two coats will work but I went ahead and added a third coat and topped it off with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip topcoat. Really loving the subtle shimmer that the micro glitter provides. It sparkles really nicely in the sun.

On a side note, I noticed the cap on this polish is cracked :( It makes me so sad. I'm debating switching it out with the cap of a color I don't really care for. Yay or nay?

Brand: Kleancolor
Color: Midnight Queen
Price: 3 for $2 at Jewelry Box stores
Quality: Fair
Brush: On the smaller side
Coats: Works with 2, swatch pics show 3
Bottom Line: Nice polishes for the price
